Word 1: SINCE
Word 2: WORRY

Dordle Reveal of the Day

Today's Dordle challenge brings you two words that might be commonly used in everyday language, yet each holds a distinct place in the English lexicon.

Word 1: SINCE

SINCE is a word used to indicate the time from when an action or event started or the reason for something. Common usage includes: "I haven't seen her since last year," or "He's been different since the accident."

As for a sprinkle of etymology, SINCE springs from Old English 'siththan', which is a combination of 'sið' meaning "after" and 'þan' equivalent to "then." This word has been pointing to times past and giving reasons since the 14th century!

Word 2: WORRY

The word WORRY is used when talking about feeling uneasy or anxious about something that may happen. You often hear it in sentences like, "Don't worry, everything will be alright."

Did you know that WORRY has a rather aggressive history? It descends from the Old English 'wyrgan', which means "to strangle," and its use has evolved from a physical act to the mental angst we associate with the word today.

Whether you've been since the dawn of dordling or you've worried through guesswork to today's answers, congratulations on unwrapping the Dordle of the day!

What is Dordle?

Dordle by Zaratustra is a daily word puzzle game that challenges players to guess two five-letter words simultaneously. It’s a twist on the popular game Wordle, doubling the difficulty. You have seven attempts to guess both words. After each guess, the game provides color-coded feedback for each word, indicating which letters are correct and in the correct position and which are correct but in the wrong position. This requires a combination of vocabulary, strategy, and deduction. The goal is to solve both words in as few tries as possible.

How to Play Dordle

  1. Start with a guess: Enter any five-letter word. It’s often a good strategy to start with a word that uses many common vowels (like “ADIEU” or “AUDIO”) to get a broad idea of which letters are in the words.
  2. Understand the feedback: After you submit your guess, the letters will be color-coded for each of the two words:
    • Green: The letter is correct and in the correct position.
    • Yellow: The letter is in the word but in the wrong position.
    • Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.
  3. Guess again: Based on the feedback, make another guess. Try to incorporate the letters you know are in the words, and avoid the letters you know are not. Remember, you’re trying to solve two words at the same time.
  4. Continue guessing: You have a total of seven tries to guess both words. If you haven’t solved them by then, the game is over.
